PROBLEMS WE SOLVE

This is much bigger than reducing sick days. At GET, wellness is more than just physical fitness or mental stability. For us, to be “well” means to have an abundance of energy & engagement and a drive to continually push to the next level of one’s health & personal development. It also means having an unimpeachable foundation of solid habits that stand up when everything else is falling over.
GET this right, and the result is a transformation of teams and individuals into creative, innovative, courageous, intuitive, giving, hungry & loyal powerhouses!
Stale culture, flatlining office energy, zero cohesion, poor communication, flailing ambition.
How many fricking times a week do you hear the term “hump day”? How about “Thank God It’s Friday”? Yep, your staff are treating their time at work like a prison sentence!! Worse still, if you think any of your staff would use the words “it’s just a job” then the negative impact of their disengagement is already much worse than you realise. Here are some pretty shocking stats from a 2016 global poll by GALLUP..
The majority of workers in Australia (60%) are not engaged, meaning they turn up, do the bare minimum but don’t feel committed to achieving results for the business. IT GETS WORSE….16% of the Australian workforce are actively disengaged meaning they’re deliberately sabotaging the business interests! The cost of this 76% of all Australian workers?…..AU$50 BILLION EVERY YEAR. In other words, approximately $4,000 per worker, per year.
Low productivity, poor focus, flawed decision making & lagging innovation/creativity.
In other words, you’re being outperformed by your competitors! That stops here. The effects of aerobic exercise, resistance training, yoga, nutrition & physical teamwork are endless, with studies uncovering new insights like there’s no tomorrow. In this information era, there really is no excuse to be ignorant of the impact that poor daily health routines have on brain function; including concentration, creativity, memory & critical problem solving. You, your bosses, your shareholders & your staff all know this crap. So why the prevalent inaction? Some of it comes down to outdated thinking around quantity over quality..i.e. valuing another 30 minutes at the computer versus taking a break for a power walk, vitamin D and 500ml of water. Inaction also stems from information overload, inconsistent health messaging & the stress of too many “shoulds” about self-care which end up becoming yet another overwhelming list of “to-dos”. Finally, if your team is low in energy, high in fatigue and spending lots of hours doing very little then they are simply not getting the right leadership from their superiors.
Inadequate stress management, high absenteeism & presenteeism, high turnover.
Burnout is now officially a diagnosable condition. (yep we’re not talking about needing a good sleep over the weekend!) In fact the World Health Organisation has added burnout to the International Classification of Diseases. It’s defined as “resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed”. Diagnosis includes three dimensions; 1. energy depletion or exhaustion, 2. feelings of negativity, mental distance or cynicism relating to one’s job, and 3. reduced professional efficacy.
In other words we are talking about the debilitation of an otherwise fit and firing, highly valued member of your organization. Many will try to push on for months, even years while their condition and their performance continues to decline (i.e. presenteeism, costing Australian businesses $34 billion each year). Without successful management, they will then inevitably come to crisis point and a full shut down, requiring lengthy recovery periods (i.e. absenteeism, costing those same businesses $44 billion each year). Many will choose not to return to work at all (costing $3.8 billion each year in lost productivity & $385 million in recruitment costs).
Group Exercise Therapy has been transforming workplaces since 2004 and under the leadership of co-directors David Brumley & Caitlin Henry, continues to inject a dynamism, energy & expertise unmatched elsewhere in the corporate wellness industry.
We believe all engagement strategies come down to the question of empowerment. Whether it’s flexibility around location & schedules, acknowledgement of potential & provision of career pathways, mentorship & trust with management, inclusivity in decision making or team bonding to build authentic relationships, the common theme is ensuring your people feel empowered to be themselves, to be the master of their own path, to be human with human needs, to grow, to lead & to have a meaningful impact on their world.
If that sounds like an elusive “holy grail” then you need our help! Wellness initiatives are a great place to start. Whether we are delivering a weekly group workout or a 12 month overhaul project, every one of our programs is built around our 15 non-negotiable empowerment strategies designed from almost 20 years of working with every type of organization under the sun. We’ve paid attention and figured out what works!
Changing office culture when it comes to wellness doesn’t come from sticking a poster about mental health above the photocopier. It requires a lead-by-example, in-the-trenches involvement from the bosses. Failing this, you can spend thousands of dollars providing wellness opportunities for the 10% of your staff who are already proactive and motivated when it comes to their health and performance. The other 90% of your staff will continue within their comfort levels.. we are human beings, that’s what we do! No idea where to start? You don’t have to do it alone. We coach 100s of senior staff on how to manage their involvement, lead by example & deliver their health messages in a way that has real impact throughout the entire team.
Focussing on burnout is where most wellness programs on the market start, and for obvious reasons – the negative impact is highly visible in both the office and the quarterly financial reports. However we see burnout as a failure to successfully address the causes of disengagement and underperformance. We have seen time and time again that wellness strategies targeting these two issues make the question of stress management a hell of a lot easier. As with all diseases, prevention is the best medicine and in the case of your office, the least costly. We work with you, your leadership team and your people to not only implement effective stress management programs but to ensure your team is culturally, physically and mentally strong. This forms the basis of resilience during times of high stress or challenge.
